Lucozade started in the late 1927s, but it wasn't what we
know Lucozade to be now days. It began
off as a small brand called Glucozade that was attempting to sell a syrup that
was orange and fizzy (just like the sports drink now) to the public. Glucozade
was advertised for medicinal purposes and was given to anyone who was ill. It
became more and more popular as parents hated to see their child sick whilst
they stood by and watched. Glucozade was presented in a see-through bottle with
an orange tinted plastic around it. The way you removed the plastic covering
was almost described as ‘a ceremony’.
In 1930 the brand wanted to move away from medicine as it
less people were becoming ill and there wasn’t a big demand for it. So, they
renamed the brand to Lucozade, change the flavourings and based the drink
around sports enhancements. This gave the company a completely new identity with
new sponsors as well. The new and improved Lucozade was about giving that boost
that athletes need to keep going and achieve their goals. How days they
advertise their product with well-known athletes like Moe Phara and Usain Bolt.
Now days it Lucozade is a very popular product with high
demand and doesn’t show any signs of slowing down soon. There is a clear
pattern here. It’s that, depending on which era its in, its purpose will change
too. The brand will adapt its marketing devises to suit the needs of the
public. That’s why Lucozade is such a popular product.
